My name is Iva Dixon, the founder of Drug Next Door. Just like you, I’m a mom who’s extremely concerned about neighborhood safety. My husband and I have been raising our three children here in Mobile, Alabama for the past decade. We’ve been blessed with two sons, who are 10 and 8, and a daughter who is 5. Because they’re still so young, they don’t know just how dangerous the world can be. I feel like I’m constantly worrying about them when they aren’t safe at home.
Staying Safe In Today’s World
The world just isn’t the same as it was a few decades ago. Growing up, I used to play outside until after dark and didn’t have to worry about locking the door to the house. I’d leave my bike out on the street all the time, and the next day, it would still be there. My family trusted my neighbors to be decent, kind people. Looking back on it, we were lucky that they were.
Nowadays, neighborhood safety is much more important. There are kidnappers, pedophiles, and criminals lurking in what feels like every town. You see it all over the news. I’ve heard of so many teachers who were arrested for having affairs with their students, as well as Internet predators who have killed the children they chatted with online. Of course, I can’t forget about the problems that our children experience among our peers, such as drug use and bullying.
All of this was the inspiration for “Drug Next Door.” Without even knowing it, you could be living next door to a drug addict or a sex offender. I started this blog to give fellow parents the tools to keep their families safe. The Internet can be dangerous, but you can use it to protect yourself, too. Don’t worry – I’ll show you how.
I’d love to hear questions and opinions from my readers. If you have time to chat, send me an email.
